Brenntag's Role In Canada's Potato Industry

For over 50 years Brenntag Canada has been treating potatoes with Sprout Nip to inhibit sprouting during extended storage periods.  Sprout Nip a Brenntag Canada registered trademark, when evenly distributed in minute quantities on the surface of a potato will prevent the tuber from sprouting for a prolonged period of time.  Sprout inhibition is especially important to producers of French fries and potato chips who operate their processing plants for much of the year in order to realize optimum economics and find potato sprouts to be extremely detrimental to the quality of their finished product.

The primary treatment method is one in which Sprout Nip is formulated for application as a mist or fog to potatoes in storage.  The Sprout Nip is vapourized and fed into a sealed storage building through the facility's ventilation system.
