REACH
REACH is the new EU chemicals legislation dealing with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of CHemicals. REACH regulations requires that all substances (chemicals) be registered with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) before they are “entered into commerce” if they are introduced into the EU in excess of an annual quantity of 1 ton of more. Preparations, blends of chemicals, are not required to be registered but the individual substances that comprise preparations must be registered. REACH also requires that the substances in articles which are designed to be released upon use, such as air fresheners or ball point pens, must be registered.
Impact of REACH on Canadian Customers
All customers who supply substances to the EU are being asked to pre-register these materials with REACH between June 1, 2008 and November 30, 2008. If a company does not pre-register the substance(s) it exports to the EU, it will be required to stop marketing the substance(s) in the EU on December 1, 2008. To register, customers may be requesting ingredient, health, safety and/or environmental information from Brenntag supplied products.
